What's Happening in Winston: November 2018

As Thanksgiving approaches, we’re thankful for all the great events happening in Winston-Salem—and we’re ready to give back to the community! This month’s guide features some fantastic food & music, arts events, and craft markets, along our favorite ways to get involved with local nonprofits and support Small Business Saturday!

#NuGivesBack

First, let’s get things started by announcing our Give Back Kickoff Contest!

We’re giving away a FREE WEBSITE to a nonprofit in the Piedmont Triad, and we need your help!

We couldn’t be more excited. There are so many awesome organizations doing important work in Winston-Salem with limited budgets and outdated websites that are hard to navigate and even harder to manage. Because we know how expensive it can be to build a clean, beautiful site, we want to help.

Want to learn more? Here’s an overview of how our GiveBack Program works. You can also visit our contest page or contact GiveBack@nuexpression.com with any questions!

Other Ways to Give

At Nu, we don’t believe in limiting gratitude and giving to a holiday season. But, at the same time, volunteering or getting involved with a local non-profit is a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving, help everyone enjoy the holidays, and even start a new routine that will keep you giving back all year long. Here are just a few ways you can volunteer or donate:

Winston-Salem Food Pantries

Ronald McDonald House of Winston-Salem

Donate to the RMHWS wishlist with household & family items, or a financial contribution. You can also volunteer to prepare a meal, help with their family room, or even contribute to some household chores!

Women of Wisdom

Women of Wisdom is a faith-based nonprofit improving the lives of women through empowerment, encouragement, and a strong support network. They also operate a transitional home called the House of Refuge. You can donate or support their monthly Plate Sales. This month’s is November 16—just in time for an office Thanksgiving celebration!

Forsyth Humane Society

Be a guardian angel for a homeless dog or cat in need. FHS is lighting its Guardian Angel Tree on Monday, November 26th at the Country Club location. Members of the community are asked to bring items off the FHS wish-list or pick off an ornament with a request from one of the FHS pets. Items off the FHS wish-list can be ordered on Amazon Smile or dropped off Tuesday – Saturday 11am – 6pm.

Paws in the Park

Organized annually by the Humane Society of Davie County, Paws in the Park is one nonprofit event that we’re always excited for! Let’s be honest, we welcome any opportunity to be around a bunch of dogs. Get into the holiday spirit by walking with your dogs, family, and friends through Tanglewood’s annual holiday lights display. There are food trucks, vendors, and opportunities to donate!

This year, there are two opportunities to join in the fun:

Tickets are $45 per vehicle, making carpooling a great option! In order to eliminate parking difficulties, each ticket has a different arrival time, including 5:00, 6:30, and 8:00 pm!

November is a great opportunity to help Forsyth Humane Society in their mission to #SaveFursyth and reach a save rate of 90% by 2023! Here are a couple of fun events to check out:
